The 15th match of the ongoing Women’s World Cup took place between India and England where the women in blue seemed never seemed to be in a fighting position. England won the contest by four wickets to register their maiden victory in this edition of WC. Having won the toss at Bay Oval, Heather Knight and company decided to invite Mithali Raj’s women to bat first. However, as soon as India came up with the willow show, everything seemed to fall.
Right from top to middle to the tailenders, all the batters failed to play an inning of substance and something that could have changed the course of the game. Smriti Mandhana’s 35 off 58 and Richa Ghosh’s 33 off 56 added a handful of runs to the scoreboard. However, these innings were just not enough as women in blue folded merely on 134 runs in 36.2 overs to set an ordinary target.
Charlie Dean was the wrecker in chief for England as she ran through India’s middle order to pick four wickets while giving away just 23 runs in 8.2 overs. Talking of other bowlers, Anya Shrubsole got two wickets under her belt while Sophie Ecclestone and Kate Cross got one each to their credit.
Here is how Twitter reacted to England vs India game
Big loss for India and this makes every game from here on a must win fixture. England got the partnership between @Heatherknight55 & @natsciver which got them to the total. Hope more batters contribute as well from the Indian side. #CWC22 #ENGvIND #CWC22

Keep fighting. Get to a total that gives you a chance to make a contest out of it. Richa and Jhulan…keep going. #CWC22 #INDvENG

Love to see an off spinner be aggressive with their flight. Though you need to ensure you get good over spin to the drop ball. That is what we are seeing with Charlie Dean….keep it going 👏🏽👏🏽 #CWC22

As soon as England walked in to bat, they had no pressure to deal with as it was an ordinary score in front. However, skipper Knight led the team from the front and played a stunning knock of 53* off 72 to make the score look more ordinary in no time. She was supported well by Nat Sciver who played an impactful inning of 45 off 46 balls.
Riding on the efforts of these two batters, England managed to pull off the victory in just 31.2 overs after losing their six wickets. Meghna Singh picked three wickets for India while conceding 26 runs. Veteran Jhulan Goswami had the best economy of 3.0 to offer on the day.
