Twitter Reactions: Clinical KKR beat RR to end five-match losing streak
It was a comprehensive win for the Knight Riders as they chased down 153 pretty comfortably.
Kolkata Knight Riders’ five-match losing streak finally came to an end with an emphatic seven-wicket triumph over the high-flying Rajasthan Royals. We are surely heading towards some drama in the business end of IPL 2022. It was a comprehensive win for the Knight Riders as they chased down 153 pretty comfortably. RR now have some introspection to do as this was their second successive defeat.
Earlier in the match, KKR won the toss and opted to bowl at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The move paid dividends straight away as opener Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed for just two. The ship was then steadied by the in-form Jos Buttler and skipper Sanju Samson, who took RR past 50. While Buttler could only manage 22 this time around, Samson brought up a fine half-century on a tricky track.
KKR pulled things back in the middle overs as spinners Anukul Roy and Sunil Narine were spot-on with their line and length. The duo combinedly conceded 47 runs in eight overs, chocking RR’s scoring rate. Towards the end, Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer provided the much-needed impetus as the Royals posted 152/5 in their allotted 20 overs.
KKR’s middle-order again came to the party
In reply, KKR yet again got off to a horrendous start with openers Baba Indrajith and Aaron Finch perishing for 15 and four runs respectively. Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Sen were simply sensational with the new ball as RR made a perfect start defending a paltry total. Like the previous games, the repair work was then done by skipper Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana, who added 60 runs for the third wicket before the former perished for 32.
Rana then continued the good work with young dasher Rinku Singh as the two southpaws played some sensible cricket towards the end and didn’t allow RR bowlers to add any twist to the tale. While Rana took the backset and played the anchor’s role, Rinku was the aggressor. Rana and Rinku remained unbeaten on 48 and 42 respectively as KKR crossed the line in 19.1 overs, clinching the contest by seven wickets.
