Twitter Reactions: On Craig Kieswetter’s Premature Retirement Call: Life is uncertain sometimes even erratic as the very sport which gives us the name, fame and everything in our life turns out to be so fatal that in a flash it can advent, even the normal functioning of daily life, a dreadful challenge. Similarly, English wicket-keeper batsmen, Craig Kieswetter has been forced to hang up his boots at a mere age of 27, due to a torrid eye injury. During a County Championship match against Northamptonshire, a bouncer from David Willey broke his nose and damaged his cheekbone when he was batting in July, last year.
After the eye injury his life had its share of ups and downs. It was one of the most strenuous and herculean phase that any sports athlete could be confronted with. But, that didn’t stop the champion player from taking the field again as he made a comeback in Ram Slam tournament in South Africa. But, now with the vision problems he was nowhere near the standards with which he had enthralled and mesmerized the world. He was not a bloke who would ever want to be a burden on his team and continue playing just for the sake of it.
Craig Kieswetter, would go down in the memory lanes of millions of cricket fans as the hero who captured their imaginations into a living reality when his swank bravado and magnificence salvaged England to their only World Cup triumph in 2010 on back of his man of the match performance in the final. “Having gone through that experience of my eye injury and everything it entailed, I feel mentally I will never again be the player that I was,” Kieswetter said in a statement on the Somerset website. “I have had a terrific career, with plenty of ups and occasional downs, and I am calling time on my career and walking away with no regrets,” he said.
Here are some twitter reactions on the saddening retirement of Craig Kieswetter:
