International cricket finally returned back to Pakistan after a long wait of almost a decade. It could not have been a better script than the team that toured the country last was the team staging the comeback of international cricket to the Pakistani soil. Sri Lanka locked horns with the hosts in the third and the final T20I of the 3-match series.

The series was already won by Pakistani side as they arrived into the Lahore T20I with an unassailable lead of 2-0. While it was all joyous scenes at the Gaddafi Stadium after Pakistan beat Sri Lanka in the final game as well, the visiting camp was definitely not a happy bunch of faces. The miseries for the Sri Lankan team continued in the match.

They fell short by 36 runs to be whitewashed 3-0 in the series. Earlier, they had lost the ODI series 5-0 as well. The limited overs cricket in Sri Lanka certainly looks dim at the moment. In the match, Pakistan got off to a flying start with Umar Amin and Fakhar Zaman getting good starts. Babar Azam also chipped in with 34. But the real impetus was provided by the veteran superstar Shoaib Malik.

Malik hit a brilliant 51 off just 24 deliveries with 5 fours and 2 sixes to his name. Also, Fahim Ashraf hit 13 off 3 balls that included 2 sixes to see the hosts post a dominating total fo 180/3 in their 20 overs. In the run chase, no Sri Lanka batsman, barring Dasun Shanaka, could show resistance and intent at the crease.

Shanaka top scored with 54 as the islanders could only manage 144/9 in their quota of 20 overs. The lost the match by 36 runs. Mohammad Amir was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/13 to his name. The Twitterati absolutely loved the contest that was on display. From tweeting about the return of cricket to the Pakistani homeland to Malik’s fifty and Amir’s four-fer, the Twitterati had their bases covered.
