History repeats for Kieron Pollard as the West Indian batting all-rounder failed to make the country’s World Cup squad one more time, after 2015. The Trinidadian failed to find a berth in the Windies squad for the upcoming World Cup which was announced on Thursday. At 31, this was perhaps Pollard’s last opportunity to make it to the team but he was left disappointed. The Jason Holder & Co will take on Pakistan in their first game in Nottingham on May 31.
Pollard, who is currently playing for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL is in a better form compared to the last two seasons. Though he has scored only one fifty so far (83 off 31 balls) giving glimpses of what he is capable of, yet the man did not make it to the final 15. Pollard was hopeful of making it back to the national team after the change of guard in the West Indian cricket board as the departing president did not have the best of terms with him.
Andre Russell, the other West Indian who has set this IPL ablaze with his monstrous hitting made it to the WC squad but Pollard didn’t get the nod. Sunil Narine and Keemo Paul are the other names to have missed the bus while Chris Gayle is in.
Pollard didn’t play in ODIs for Windies since 2016
Pollard, who is an established player in T20s with nearly 10,000 runs and over 260 wickets in his kitty, hasn’t played for the Windies in an ODI for quite some time. His last appearance for the Windies in the 50-over format was in October 2016 after making debut in 2007 and in 101 matches. He has scored 2,289 runs with three hundreds at an average of 25.7. He also picked 50 wickets in the ODIs. He has also played in 59 T20Is, scoring 788 runs and picked 23 wickets.
The Twitter was abuzz after the Windies announced their WC squad as the 10th and final team, calling it the most explosive batting wicket. However, it also expressed disappointment over the exclusion of the likes of Pollard and Narine.
Here are some reactions the Twitter has come up with

West Indies team for World cup 2019, not including the versatile all rounder, Kieron Pollard came as a shocker. Sunil Narine opted out due to injury. Shannon Gabriel has found a spot back in the team. Red hot player of IPL 2019, Andre Russell is back & thats great news.
