Former U-19 World Cup-winning skipper Yash Dhull is making his debut in the Indian Premier League 2023 after being handed his maiden cap from veteran Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma ahead of Delhi Capitals' clash against Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The 20-year-old top-order batter from Delhi, who led the Indian U-19 team to their fifth World Cup title in 2022, makes his debut in the cash-rich league on the back of a successful stint in domestic cricket. The young batting sensation was drafted in the Capitals' middle order after Ishant Sharma handed him his maiden IPL cap. He has played eight T20 matches in his career so far, amassing 363 runs with a staggering average of 72.60.
Delhi's Sarfaraz Khan, who is knocking on the door for a Test call-up, embraced the debutant before the crucial fixture against five-time champions Mumbai Indians. Dhull was drafted into the eleven after Khaleel Ahmed was ruled out of the match due to an injury, revealed by skipper David Warner.
Meanwhile, Rilee Rossouw was dropped in favour of star Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman as the home side desperately look for their first win of the tournament after losing all three encounters in this year's tournament so far.
