In the absence of James Anderson, Jofra Archer and Ollie Robinson, Stuart Broad stepped up and picked up a five-for to derail Ireland’s momentum in the one-off Test at Lord’s. The veteran pacer was sensational with the new ball as he rattled the top order of the Andrew Balbirnie-led side in order to give the home side a massive advantage.
Notably, the cricketer first dismissed Peter Moor for 10 and in his very next over, he sent skipper Balbirnie and Harry Tector back to the pavilion. Later, in the 31st over of the match, the cricketer got the better of James McCollum, who was looking good in the middle. After he was dismissed by Broad, Curtis Campher took control of the situation but the cricketer couldn’t survive the wrath of Jack Leach, who eventually went on to pick up three wickets.
Later in the day, the ace pacer picked up the wicket of Mark Adair to pick up another five-for in the longest format of the game. With that, Broad will also be happy with his preparation ahead of the Ashes, which is slated to begin on June 16. Since three of England’s premier pacers are currently dealing with their respective injuries, Broad can prove to be a key factor in the team.
Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett restarts Bazball
Under the leadership of head coach Brendon McCullum and skipper Ben Stokes, England have developed a new method of playing Test cricket. The cricketers play an aggressive brand of cricket and that has worked wonders for them as the side has defeated the likes of South Africa, Pakistan and New Zealand in the recent past. Against Ireland, the scenes are pretty similar as openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett gave England a perfect start in the middle.
Crawley got out after scoring 56 runs off 45 deliveries but he eventually set the tone for the side. His opening partner Duckett too scored a half-century as the hosts completely dominated Ireland on the opening day of the match.
