Mumbai Indians got off to a great start against Delhi Capitals with Prithvi Shaw's early wicket in the 16th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 on Tuesday, April 11. Shaw recorded three fours to show some glimpses of returning to form but was caught out by Cameron Green on Hrithik Shokeen's delivery in the fourth over to register another low score.
Shaw tried to go for a boundary with a powerful sweep shot over square leg but misjudged the delivery. The frustration was clearly seen on the player's face as he continued to struggle for the big knocks in IPL 2023.
The 23-year-old batter scored 15 off 10, surprisingly his highest score in IPL 2023 in four innings, after managing just 19 runs from the first three innings. Shaw's flop show continued with no 25-plus knock from his last seven IPL innings stretching back to the last edition. His numbers against Mumbai Indians are further disappointing with just 143 runs from 11 innings at an average of 13.00 and a strike rate of 116.26.
Shaw recently made news after smashing a triple century for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy match against Assam in January 2023. But apart from that impressive innings, he has struggled for consistency across formats.
Shaw's disappointing form is also reflected in the franchise's performances as the Capitals continue to struggle for good starts this season. They are currently placed at the bottom of the points table with three straight defeats from their opening three games.
Fans lost their patience after another failed performance by the youngster and took to social media to express their disbelief at the player's string of poor performances. Many are suggesting that the talented cricketer needs to spend some time on the bench to regain his focus while few are lambasting the youngster for not showing any kind of responsibility or any sign to improve his form.
