Australia tightened their grip in the ongoing Ashes series after a remarkable collapse from the English batters on the third morning of the Lord's Test. England's reckless approach in the first session left the fans and experts bemused as the home side lost six wickets for just the addition of 47 runs.

England's swashbuckling approach with the bat on the second day brought great success to the home team, despite a flurry of wickets in the final session. The Three Lions were hopeful of a strong showing from their influential skipper Ben Stokes and Harry Brook against a handicapped Australian bowling unit.

However, Stokes was completely undone by Mitchell Starc with a beautiful delivery in the very first over of the day, pegging back the home side instantly. Even though Harry Brook compiled a brisk half-century, he was lured into Australia's short-ball ploy, inducing a frustrating reaction from the onlooking Geoffery Boycott.

Australia's procession in the first hour continued as Jonny Bairstow also succumbed to a reckless shot against Josh Hazlewood. The English tail didn't last too long either, as Travis Head got rid of Ollie Robinson and Stuard Broad in one over before Aussie skipper Pat Cummins ended the English resistance with a well-directed short delivery to Josh Tongue.

England lost six wickets for just 47 runs, a testament to their questionable approach against the Australian quicks. The home side's woeful batting performance saw the Aussie's pouch a considerable first-innings lead of 91 runs despite the absence of the injured Nathan Lyon.
