'Back to BOSSING!' - Twitter buzzes as Jos Buttler rediscovers top form with domineering knock against SRH
Jos Buttler scored 95 runs off 59 balls with four sixes and 10 fours.
Courtesy of a scintillating batting show by Jos Buttler, Rajasthan Royals registered a humongous first innings total of 214 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The two sides locked horns at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur in match 52 of the IPL 2023 on Sunday, May 7.
Upon winning the toss, Royals’ skipper Sanju Samson decided to put up a total in the first innings. The opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler clubbed the SRH bowlers to put on a solid start. Jaiswal played a quickfire knock as he amassed 35 off 18 balls which included two sixes and five fours at a strike rate of 194.44.
On the other hand, Buttler began his innings, run-a-ball to score 20, and kept the scoreboard ticking. However, soon after Jaiswal’s dismissal, Buttler took the onus to get the big runs and shifted gears as Rajasthan scored 61 in the powerplay (first six overs).
The English hitter injected momentum and notched up his half-century off 32 balls which featured two sixes and five fours. In doing so, Buttler got his fourth half-century of the season and also rediscovered his mojo following back-to-back underwhelming outings.
Buttler played quite a few exquisite shots that garnered him the big runs to cruise towards a potential century. He was further aided by skipper Sanju Samson, who clobbered his half-century off 33 balls. With hardly any respite, the rival bowling unit were unable to find any response to the impressive hitting by Samson and Buttler.
The pair added 100 runs for the second wicket off 60 balls to remain steady in the innings. However, it was seasoned pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who drew the curtains on Buttler’s brilliant knock thereby denying him his maiden century of the season. A low full toss caught Buttler plumb in front of the stumps as he headed back for 95 runs off 59 balls with four sixes and 10 fours.
Prior to the knock, Buttler endured a lean patch, as he was unable to convert his scores into bigger innings. However, the batter now has 392 runs in 11 appearances for the Men in Pink in the season.
