Courtesy of seven boundaries and three sixes, youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed a 13-ball half-century against Kolkata Knight Riders - which is also the fastest in the history of the Indian Premier League.
The 21-year-old showed a lot of intent right from the start as he hit 26 runs against Nitish Rana in the first over of RR’s innings. That gave a lot of confidence to the Uttar Pradesh-born cricketer as he scripted his name in the record books.
Notably, Jaiswal showed a lot of promise throughout the season and is one of the contenders to win the Emerging Player of the Year award. He scored a lot of runs for Mumbai in the domestic arena and in the ongoing IPL 2023, Jaiswal has lived up to all the potential and showed his calibre and proved that he is ready to represent the national team soon.
Meanwhile, his opening partner Jos Buttler failed to make a mark in the match. Due to a miscommunication in the middle, the England international got run out but was later spotted appreciating Jaiswal’s masterclass at Eden Gardens.
On the other hand, batting first, KKR batters failed to get going right from the start. Jason Roy and Rahmanullah Gurbaz started well but once they got out, the home team was under a lot of pressure. Venkatesh Iyer tried to bail the two-time champions out of a difficult situation but his strike rate was under the scanner. He ended up scoring 57 runs off 42 deliveries as KKR posted 149 runs on the board.
A lot was expected from Andre Russell and Rinku Singh but none of them could handle the wrath of Yuzvendra Chahal, who was on song. Even though KM Asif got the better of Russell but Chahal kept the West Indies international under a lot of pressure as he ended up scoring 10 runs off 10 deliveries. Overall, Chahal managed to pick up four wickets and with that, he became the all-time leading wicket-taker of the tournament.
