'Delhi Capitals have a JEM'- Fans delighted after Jemimah Rodrigues goes for INR 2.20 crore
Fresh off her heroics against Pakistan, Jemimah Rodrigues becomes Delhi Capitals' first signing.
India's Jemimah Rodrigues, who played a match-winning hand in her side's thrilling encounter against Pakistan in the Women's T20 World Cup 2023, was roped in by the Delhi Capitals for a handsome price tag of INR 2.20 crore. She became the first signing by the Delhi side, who were involved in a bidding war for Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur earlier in the auction.
Jemimah Rodriguez, who was predicted to be one of the top picks in the inaugural auction, was bagged by the Delhi Capitals, making her the first signing of the franchise. She made the headlines after playing a decisive knock against arch-rivals Pakistan in India's T20 World Cup campaign opener in Cape Town on Sunday, February 12.
Rodrigues, a fluent middle-order batter by trade, has been one of the most coveted talents in the shortest format of the game ever since making her debut for the national team in 2018. Her unbeaten half-century against Pakistan, once again stamped her quality in a star-studded Indian line-up.
Following the capture of the young Indian batting star, the Capitals went on to sign the prolific Aussie batter Meg Lanning. They captured the Australian skipper for INR 1.1 Crore. She is likely to lead the Delhi-based side in the inaugural edition given her experience of leading the national side. India's young batting sensation Shafali Verma, who led the U19 Indian team to glory last month, was also bagged for INR 2 crore by the Delhi Capitals, making her the third signing by the franchise.
