Delhi Capitals (DC) outfoxed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a paltry first-innings score of 127 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The two franchises have locked horns in match 28 of the ongoing IPL 2023 on Thursday, April 20.
Skipper of DC, David Warner, won the toss and put the visiting team to bat first. Notably, KKR announced four changes to their XI from the previous game. Litton Das, Jason Roy, Kulwant Khejroliya, and Mandeep Singh were included in the setup for the clash.
On the other hand, DC decided to field veteran pacer Ishant Sharma and Phil Salt as the wicketkeeper-batter. Despite KKR making the changes, the decision seemed to have backfired as DC outrightly dominated them throughout the course of the first innings.
KKR debutants Jason Roy and Litton Das opened but could only manage to get 15 runs between them, as the latter was sent packing for mere four runs. What followed was the KKR batting line-up falling like a pack of cards as they were reduced to 70/6 in under 12 overs.
Jason tried hard to get the boundaries and keep the innings steady with the big runs but eventually succumbed under pressure and was sent packing for 43 off 39 balls by Kuldeep Yadav. The left-arm spinner struck for the second time in the very next ball as he got the wicket of Impact Player Anukul Roy.
Meanwhile, Ishant Sharma picked two wickets before getting substituted for Prithvi Shaw and returned impressive bowling figures of 2/19 in his four. Ishant claimed his first wicket after 718 days in the IPL. With the fall of wickets at regular intervals, explosive hitter Andre Russell too was unable to bail out his side entirely from the precarious situation.
However, it rained sixes in the final over as Russell hammered Mukesh Kumar for 19 runs and concluded with an individual score of an unbeaten 38 runs. The disciplined bowling performance paid dividends as DC restricted KKR for a meagre 127 runs in their 20 overs. Ishant, Kuldeep, Anrich Nortje, and Axar Patel got two wickets each.
