Mumbai Indians (MI) posted a competitive total of 192 runs, courtesy of star all-rounder Cameron Green’s blazing knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The two sides have crossed swords in match 25 of the ongoing IPL 2023 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday, April 18.
Aiden Markram, skipper of the home side, won the toss and decided to field first. What followed was a steady start handed by the opening duo of Ishan Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma. The pair combined for 41 runs before the skipper was sent packing for 28 off 18 balls.
Moreover, the visiting team got 53 runs in the powerplay (1-6 overs) soon after Ishan began firing for the side. Star all-rounder Cameron Green, who joined him after Rohit’s dismissal, initially took it slow and kept the scoreboard ticking.
However, Marco Jansen struck twin blows in one over to dismiss both Ishan and Suryakumar Yadav after brilliant catches by skipper Markram. What followed was Tilak Varma and Green unleashing havoc as the duo injected momentum into their innings and got the required big runs.
Tilak slammed four maximums and two fours to get 37 off just 17 balls. On the other hand, Green completely turned around his delicate innings by shifting gears and took the rival bowling unit to the cleaners. In addition to this, the two explosive hitters collectively clobbered SRH’s best bowler of the evening, Jansen, for 21 runs off the 15th over.
Despite Tilak’s dismissal, Green showed no signs of slowing down as he continued his blazing knock. Green targeted T Natarajan's 19 runs (4,4,4,6,1) off the final five balls off the 18th over to help lift the run rate. Mumbai eventually concluded with a competitive total of 192 runs, and it remains to be seen if SRH can chase it down in the second innings.
Green remained unbeaten with his maiden half-century off 33 balls and concluded the innings with a score of 64 off 40 balls with six boundaries and two maximums to his name. On the other hand, Jansen got two wickets, whereas Natarajan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar got one wicket apiece.
