England had India reeling at 219/7 at stumps trailing by 134 runs.
England finished Day 2 of the fourth Test against India in a commanding position as they had the hosts reeling at 219/7 in the first innings with Dhruv Jurel (30* off 58) and Kuldeep Yadav (17* off 72) at the crease. The Ben Stokes-led side began the day on 302/7 with Joe Root and Ollie Robinson at the crease. The duo extended their partnership to 102 and helped pass the 340-run mark.
Robinson went on to score 58 (96) while Joe Root remained unbeaten on 122* (274) as England were all out on 353. In reply, India lost their captain Rohit Sharma (2 off 9) early in the innings as James Anderson made him edge one straight to wicketkeeper Ben Foakes. However, his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his marvellous played a brilliant knock of 73.
Apart from him, other Indian batters failed to counter the spin duo of Shoaib Bashir (4/84) and Tom Hartley (2/47) who left the hosts reeling at 177/7. Dhruv Jurel 30* (58) and Kuldeep Yadav 17* (72) stabilized the innings with their unbeaten 42-run stand and took India to stumps.

1. Ravindra Jadeja broke Root and Robinson’s 102-run stand
Root and Robinson continued from where they left off on Day 1 and extended their partnership beyond 100. The duo was looking at ease at the crease as they were eyeing to take England’s score beyond 400. However, Ravindra Jadeja came to India’s rescue by dismissing Robinson who tried to reverse-sweep him but edged it into Dhruv Jurel’s gloves. Jadeja further dismissed Shoaib Bashir and James Anderson cheaply to bundle out England for 353.
2. Yashasvi Jaiswal continues his brilliant form
The opening batter continued his rich form and scored his fourth 50-plus score of the series. He top-scored on Day 2 for India with his knock 73 (117) with the help of eight fours and a six. With his innings, Jaiswal took his overall series tally to 618 runs and became the fifth Indian to score over 600 runs in the series.
3. Shoaib Bashir runs through Indian batting order
India were in a good position at 86-1 after 24 overs with Jaiswal and Shubman Gill (38 off 64) at the crease who had added 82 runs for the second wicket. However, off-spinner Shoaib Bashir playing just his second Test came to his team’s rescue and broke the stand by dismissing Gill lbw. He further got rid of Rajat Patidar (17 off 42), Ravindra Jadeja (12 off 12) and Jaiswal (73) to register figures of 4/84 on Day 2.
