India and England continued their first Test of the series at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, with Day 2 of the clash ending with India at 421 with the loss of seven wickets and a lead of 175 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel remained on strike as Day 2 ended, but as Day 3 rolled around, the Indian team was quickly pinned down and dismissed for just 436 runs in the first innings. Jadeja scored 87 runs in 180 deliveries, with Axar Patel adding 44 runs to his name. 

As for England, Joe Root was the highest-wicket taker with four wickets to his name; Tom Hartley and Rehan Ahmed took two wickets each, with Jack Leach striking once.

As England aimed to put in a good and improved performance with the bat in the second innings, the side did just that as the visitors' openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett scoring 31 and 47 runs, respectively. Furthermore, Ollie Pope remained unbeaten for a mammoth score of 148 runs in 208 deliveries.

However, the Indian team did a good job of limiting England’s middle order on Day 3. Joe Root was sent packing for just two runs, with Jonny Bairstow scoring just 10 runs.

Skipper Ben Stokes only managed to add six runs on the board. Ben Foakes added 34 runs on the board and Rehan Ahmed stayed unbeaten on a score of 16 runs. Posting 316 runs with the loss of six wickets, England ended Day 3 with a lead of 126 runs and will look to add to the tally on Day 4 of the clash and post a big target for India to chase down.

As for team India, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Ashwin remained the highest wicket-takers with two wickets each to their names, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja struck once each.
