India and South Africa took centre stage at Boland Park in Paarl on Thursday, December 21 for the third and final ODI of their ongoing multi-format series. Both sides had it all to play for in the final clash, as the series was levelled with India winning the first ODI and the Proteas registering a win in the second game.

The third ODI began with the Indian team coming into bat first after losing the toss. The side got off to a horrid start as openers Rajat Patidar and Sai Sudharsan scored 22 and 10 runs, respectively. After the subpar start, it was the knock of Sanju Samson that stabilised the innings for the Indian team.

Samson scored his maiden international century, scoring 108 runs in 114 deliveries. Skipper KL Rahul added 21 runs on the board, with Tilak Varma scoring 52 and Rinku Singh amassing 38 runs in 27 balls. The Men in Blue posted a total of 296 runs on the board in the first innings.

However, after the opener’s knock, the rest of the batting order could not amount to much. Skipper Aiden Markram added just 36 runs to the board, with Heinrich Klassen adding just 21.
