India vs Australia, 3rd Test, Day 3 - Best Memes from the game
Australia won the third Test by nine wickets.
After another poor outing with the bat in the second innings of the third Test, India needed something extraordinary with the ball to keep Australia away from making a comeback in the four-match Test series. However, that didn’t work out well for India as the Steve Smith-led side was very comfortable in registering a nine-wicket win in Indore.
However, the home side started the day with the big wicket of Usman Khawaja, who was tremendous in the first innings of the match. Ravichandran Ashwin’s wicket gave India a sense of hope but soon after, Travis Head’s counter-attacking cricket spoiled all of India’s plans. Marnus Labuschangne too looked rock solid as Australia chased the total in the morning session itself.
Now when it comes to India’s batting, their middle order has been pretty poor so far in the series. Cheteshwar Pujara finally showed glimpses of his class but players like Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer are yet to convert their starts into a big total. KS Bharat’s form with the bat is concerning as well and thus, there’s a lot of room for improvement for India ahead of the fourth Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Coming back to the third Test, veteran spinner Nathan Lyon was adjudged the Player of the Match for his outstanding performance. In the second innings of the game, the 35-year-old dismissed eight of India’s batters and absolutely crushed India’s batting. Overall, Lyon picked up 11 wickets in the match and in the post-match press presentation, he talked about his stock balls and how it has helped him in the series.
“It has been a pretty remarkable Test series. But to come out here and put a really good team performance that is something I am really proud about. Today to see the boys get there one down is pretty special. I don't have all the tricks or all the trades in the game but one thing I do have is belief in my stock ball and that is the biggest thing in world cricket, if you believe in your best ball then you can challenge the best players in the world for longer periods of time,” said Lyon as quoted by Cricbuzz.
