'India's future is in good hands' - Twitter in awe as Yashasvi Jaiswal lights up 1000th IPL game with magnificent ton in Mumbai
Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 124 off 62 balls smashing 16 fours and 8 sixes in his innings.
The Super Sunday in the Indian Premier League 2023 got even grander as Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals locked horns in the historic 1000th game of the T20 extravaganza. Rajasthan captain Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bat first at the batting-friendly wicket of Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
RR’s in-form opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler walked out to the middle to give another electrifying start to their side. Jaiswal continued from where he left off in the last game against Chennai Super Kings and in style hooking Cameron Green for a six in the first over itself. He further smacked Jofra Archer for a maximum in the second over and made his intentions clear.
The southpaw looked in imperious form as he took on Riley Meredith in the fifth over of the innings and clobbered him for four boundaries. The 21-year-old ended the powerplay in style launching a half-tracker by Piyush Chawla right into the second tier at deep mid-wicket.
Wickets were falling at the other end as Jos Buttler (18 off 19), Sanju Samson (14 off 10), and Devdutt Padikkal (2 off 4) got dismissed in the eighth, tenth, and eleventh over respectively.
However, Jaiswal was unfazed at the other end and reached his half-century in style smashing a full toss by Chawla towards cover. The southpaw reached his second consecutive fifty of the season off 32 balls and was eyeing his first-ever hundred in IPL.
The RR opener kept on hitting the MI bowlers mercilessly for boundaries and surpassed his highest T20 score of 77 in the 16th over. The Uttar Pradesh-born batter moved into the 90s by pulling Arshad Khan for a maximum on the last ball of the 17th over.
The young sensation finally reached the coveted three-figure mark with back-to-back boundaries against Riley Meredith in the 18th over. Jaiswal reached his hundred in just 53 balls and was cheered on by the packed crowd at the Wankhede Stadium who were in awe of the youngster’s talent.
Jaiswal didn't stop there and went on to score 124 off 62 balls smashing 16 fours and 8 sixes in his innings, before getting dismissed caught & bowled in the final over by Arshad Khan. Courtesy of his knock, RR finished their innings on 212/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
