The summit clash of the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2024 saw Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad face off for a shot at the title. Both sides locked horns at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, May 26. The clash began with Sunrisers Hyderabad coming in to bat first after winning the toss.

The side found itself in heaps of trouble quite early, as opener Abhishek Sharma was sent packing in the first over for just two runs. Furthermore, star batter Travis Head was dismissed for a duck, adding to the misery. Rahul Tripathi was dismissed for just nine runs as SRH’s top-order collapsed.

Aiden Markram looked to stay set at the crease, but his innings were cut short after he was dismissed for 20 runs in 23 deliveries. Nitish Kumar Reddy scored 13 runs, with Heinrich Klaasen adding just 16 runs on the board as well. Skipper Pat Cummins’ late push of 24 runs saw SRH post a total of 113 runs in the first innings.

As for Kolkata Knight Riders, Andre Russell was the highest wicket-taker for his side in the first innings, with three wickets to his name. Harshit Rana and Mitchell Starc took two wickets each, while Vaibhav Arora, Sunil Narine, and Varun Chakravarthy took one wicket each as well.

Venkatesh Iyer’s brilliance leads KKR to comfortable win

Aiming to chase down the target of 114 runs, Kolkata Knight Riders lost an early wicket as Sunil Narine was dismissed by Pat Cummins for six runs in two deliveries. However, Rahmanullah Gurbaz played a resilient knock, scoring 39 runs in 32 balls.

However, it was the knock of Venkatesh Iyer that propelled the side to an incredible third IPL title. Iyer amassed 52 runs in 36 deliveries, winning the game for his side with 10 overs to spare and eight wickets in hand.
