IPL Auction 2024: Netizens pour mixed reactions as Royal Challengers Bangalore sign Alzarri Joseph for INR 11.50 crore

Royal Challengers Bangalore broke the bank and signed West Indies international Alzarri Joseph for INR 11.50 crore in the IPL auction 2024. After missing out on Pat Cummins, the Faf du Plessis-led side showed a lot of interest in the 27-year-old. They were involved in a bidding war with Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals but eventually managed to land the cricketer.

Notably, he is in terrific form at the moment, picking up six wickets in the first three matches of the five-match T20I series against England. He has represented the national team in 19 T20I matches so far and has picked up 32 wickets in the process. The Antigua-born cricketer has been with Mumbai Indians and Gujrat Titans in the IPL before but couldn’t crack the code in either of the teams.

He has been sensational in franchise cricket, which helped him attract a lot of bids during the auction. He has played 19 matches in the IPL and has picked up 20 wickets, which shows that the cricketer has some experience in playing in Indian conditions.

Coming back to his form, Joseph picked up the wickets of Phil Salt, Will Jacks and Sam Curran in the second T20I of the series against England, as West Indies won the match by 10 runs. The pacer has the capability to do a lot of damage with the new ball and RCB needed someone like that, especially after releasing the likes of Josh Hazlewood, David Willey and Harshal Patel.

Meanwhile, Joseph is likely to pair with Mohammed Siraj and open the bowling for RCB. He can be deadly in the death overs as well and hence, the franchise will be elated to sign him on board. However, his place in the playing XI remains a concern. Skipper Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green are guaranteed starters in the playing XI. Hence, Joseph will have to be at his very best to seal his birth in the team.
