'Is the DRS timer a joke or what' - Fans bash umpire for considering Wriddhiman Saha's review call after timer runs out
Arjun Tendulkar shocked Gujarat Titans with the early wicket of Wriddhiman Saha
Arjun Tendulkar gave Mumbai Indians a sensational start against Gujarat Titans in the 35th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on April 25. The young pacer dismissed Wriddhiman Saha in the third over with just 12 runs on the scoreboard to silence the home crowd. However, fans were surprised to witness the umpire allowing Saha's review even after the DRS timer was over.
Arjun lured Saha to play the short delivery over the leg stump which took an edge and was caught behind by Ishan Kishan. Mumbai's appeal was confident and the umpire lifted his finger after taking some time. As expected, Saha approached his opening partner Shubman Gill and decided to take a review. But his signal for review came almost two seconds after the DRS timer disappeared.
But to everyone's surprise, the umpire allowed Saha's late review and asked the third umpire to help with the decision. DRS showed a spike as the ball made slight contact with the batter's gloves. Saha walked off the pitch as Mumbai's camp erupted in celebration. But fans were quick to question the umpire's strange decision to allow Saha a late review.

However, the hosts quickly recovered from Saha’s early wicket with Gill and skipper Hardik Pandya dominating powerplay overs. The duo added a 38-run stand for the second wicket as Gujarat Titans reached 50/1 in just six overs.
Gill made an impressive comeback after getting dismissed on a duck against Lucknow Super Giants in the previous game. The young opener smashed three consecutive boundaries off Cameron Green in the sixth over to put Gujarat Titans in a comfortable position for a big total.
But Hardik gave away his valuable wicket on the first delivery off Piyush Chawla’s over after the powerplay. Gujarat Titans’ batters have struggled for consistency lately as they managed to score just 135 runs while batting first against Lucknow Super Giants. They have failed to register back-to-back wins in their last four games and are currently placed in the fourth position in the points table with eight points after six matches.
