'Just one FLUKE innings' - Twitter overflows as Harry Brook dropped against Rajasthan Royals following dismal run
Harry Brook was dropped from the XI, however, SRH added him in the Impact Players list.
Bottom-placed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) drop young English sensation, Harry Brook following his back-to-back dismal outings in the ongoing IPL 2023 against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Kiwi batter Glenn Phillips joins the setup against the Men in Pink, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, in Jaipur, on Sunday, May 7.
During the toss, the Sunrisers' skipper, Aiden Markram, named a couple of changes against the Royals as Mayank Agarwal, Umran Malik, and Brook were dropped from the XI for the clash. Notably, Brook's exclusion from the setup has grabbed headlines as the batter has failed to live up to his massive price tag.
The English star batter was roped in for a whopping INR 13.25 crore in the IPL mini-auction in December. Brook clobbered an unconquered century against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) which featured as many as 12 boundaries and three sixes at a stunning strike rate of 181.81.
Just when it seemed like the batter convincingly cemented his position in the XI, Brook returned a string of low scores in the last five outings following his blistering ton. In addition to this, he failed to open his tally and registered two ducks on the trot against KKR and DC in the last two matches. In doing so, the Hyderabad think tank decided to confine him to the sidelines in the match against Sanju Samson’s Royals.
The 24-year-old Southpaw has collected a paltry 163 runs in his nine appearances at an underwhelming average of 20.38. With this, SRH decided to field Glenn Phillips, who donned the orange outfit for the first time in the ongoing season.
Phillips joined the XI on the back of an impressive First-Class season with Otago in the recently concluded Plunket Shield. The explosive hitter slammed 347 runs in the three matches for the side in the competition. The batter will be gunning to create a lasting impression in the IPL and help his side get ahead in the remainder of the group matches.
