India did not get off to a good start against Sri Lanka in their Super Four contest as the Men in Blue lost two wickets on the trot, and the one which stunned everyone was Virat Kohli’s dismissal. The top-order batter, who was in good touch since the start of the Asia Cup 2022 was dismissed for a four-ball duck on the third over by Dilshan Madushanka.

Kohli, who hit two consecutive centuries in the recent fixtures, one against Hong Kong in the group stage and the other against Pakistan in the Super Four stage, had to walk back soon as he entered the pitch in India’s second game of the Super Four against Sri Lanka.

Kohli, who could not manage to take a run in the first three balls that he faced, attempted to push himself towards hitting the ball which ripped his wickets off. The ball sneaked past the inside edge before slamming into the middle and off stump. Kohli was disappointed with himself as he walked back to the pavilion.

Double blow for India in the powerplay

Earlier in the second over, Maheesh Theekshana had dismissed the opening batter, KL Rahul, by placing his yorker with perfection. Rahul decided to go for a referral after the on-field umpire signaled out. After a few minutes of continuously reviewing the decision, the third umpire gave the decision in favor of Sri Lanka as there was a spike seen on the Ultra edge.

By the virtue of two early wickets, Sri Lanka added pressure on India. With Rohit Sharma maintaining his place on the field, Suryakumar Yadav joined him on the field after Kohli’s dismissal as the duo took India through the powerplay. Thanks to the power-hitting showcased by skipper Sharma, India managed to put up a decent 44/2 in the powerplay after being lowered to 15/2 at the end of the third over.

Twitter was disappointed with KL Rahul as his poor form with the bat continued. While there were a few users who had sympathies for Kohli, who had seemed to have regained form after a harsh couple of years, there were also some who were disappointed with the ace-batter for giving away his wicket cheaply.
