India got off to a sensational start on Day 1 of the second Test against South Africa as they got the hosts all out for 55 after captain Dean Elgar decided to bat first at Newlands, Cape Town. Mohammed Siraj was seen at his imperious best as he registered his best bowling figures in Tests of 6/15 in nine overs.
The day began with the South African openers Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar getting off to a cautious start scoring five runs off the first three overs. Siraj struck the first blow as he got Markram caught at third slip by Yashasvi Jaiswal. He further got the big scalp of last game’s centurion Elgar as the southpaw got an inside edge back onto his stumps.

At the other end, Jasprit Bumrah also got into the act and dismissed the debutant Tristan Stubbs who got caught by Rohit Sharma at short leg while Tony de Zorzi got strangled down the leg side against Siraj to leave SA reeling at 15/4.
The right-arm seamer further dismissed David Bedingham (12), Marco Jansen (0) and Kyle Verreyne (15) to register the best figures of his Test career of 6/15 in nine overs. Notably, it was the third fifer of his career having earlier picked 5/73 against Australia in Brisbane in 2021 and 5/60 against West Indies in Port of Spain in 2023.
South Africa registered their lowest Test score since 1933
Bumrah further accounted for Nandre Burger to finish with figures of 2/25 in eight overs while Mukesh Kumar dismissed Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada to register his best figures in Tests of 2/0. As a result, the Proteas were bundled out for 55 in 23.2 overs and India went into lunch firmly on top.
