Mayank Agarwal has been roped in by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for a staggering INR 8.25 Crore at the ongoing IPL 2023 mini-auction. Agarwal had registered his name for this event at his base price of INR 1 crore after being released by the Punjab Kings.
When Agarwal’s name was taken, PBKS showed some interest in buying him back before they backed out of this race and the bidding war took place between the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings and the 2016 winners Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The bidding war kept getting intense between both southern rivals and it went past the INR 5 crore mark in no time before CSK backed out and the Orange Army acquired his services for the 2023 season.
With SRH having released New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson, they are in need of a captain for the upcoming season and Mayank Agarwal could be one of the captaincy candidates.
Mayank Agarwal hopes to start afresh in IPL 2023
Mayank Agarwal was offered a sum of INR 12 Crore for IPL 2022 by PBKS and he was named their captain. However, Agarwal had a forgettable season both as a batter and a leader. The 31-year-old scored only 196 runs from 13 matches averaging 16.33 and a strike rate of 122.5 including a half-century. Punjab finished at the sixth position and failed to make the playoffs for an eighth straight season.
Thus, PBKS decided to part ways with Agarwal and released him from their squad leading up to the IPL 2023 auction. Apart from the Punjab Kings, Mayank had also represented the teams like Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant and he has a wealth of experience when it comes to playing in the IPL. He would now be looking to start afresh and play a key role in taking the Sunrisers Hyderabad to newer heights. SRH failed to make the playoffs in the last two seasons.

why would you bid 8 crores for Mayank Agarwal when you need an all-rounder or a death bowler? Where does he fit in the top order with Rutu, Conway, Moeen and Rayudu/Dube? Glad that SRH outbid CSK #IPL2023Auction
