Courtesy of a majestic unbeaten century by opener Shubman Gill, team India posted 234 runs against New Zealand in the third and final T20I at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Men in Blue have locked horns with the visitors as both sides are on the lookout for a win in the series decider in the final T20I.
Opting to bat first, the early dismissal of Ishan Kishan did not stop the rest of the batting unit to get the big runs. Rahul Tripathi, who joined Shubman Gill following the dismissal of Kishan, swiftly hit the ground running and got the boundaries on numerous occasions. However, he was unable to convert it into a big score as he was sent packing for 44 runs from 22 balls at a strike rate of 200.
Gill shifted gears after getting set a bit and propelled India to a big score with his blitzkrieg. Upon reaching 70-odd runs, the batter immediately picked up and began hammering back-to-back maximums and reached his century in quick time. The flamboyant right-hander got his maiden T20I century in just 54 balls against the Kiwis in the final T20I. Notably, Gill's unbeaten knock of 126 runs is the highest individual score for India in T20Is, surpassing Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
After getting level in the series in Lucknow in the second T20I, the Men in Blue look to seal the contest in the final T20I as they have posted a rather humongous total and look to be the favourites to clinch the series.
While the chase will be tricky for the Kiwis in the second innings, the visitors will hope to replicate a similar batting performance like the one India projected. The Indian bowling unit will need to work in tandem if they want to get ahead in the contest and keep the momentum.
Early breakthroughs by Indian bowlers has jolted the BlackCaps in their run chase in the series decider. However, it remains to be seen if the visitors are able to pull off something magical and snatch the game from the home side.
Here is how Netizens and former cricketers expressed their delight in Gill's stunning century-
