The Women’s Premier League Auction 2023 has been an action-packed affair so far with some players going for big bucks while others failing to attract any bids from the franchises. The auction had one of the best starts ever as Indian opener Smriti Mandhana was bought for a whopping INR 3.4 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore.
However, after the second round ended, several big international stars went unsold as franchises were keen to buy all-rounders in place of bowlers. One of the biggest names that failed to attract bids was that of the Australian seamer Megan Schutt.
The 30-year-old is the fourth-highest wicket-taker in Women’s T20Is, having 116 wickets at an average of 16.12 and an economy of 6.20, inclduing three four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul. She also jointly holds the record for picking four-wicket hauls in consecutive innings in T20Is.
The other surprising player that went unsold was New Zealand’s Lea Tahuhu, who is the leading wicket-taker for the Kiwi women in T20Is. However, the franchises showed no interest in the veteran medium pacer.
South Africa’s Ayabonga Khaka was also among the players who failed to get any attention from the franchises while Australia’s Jess Jonassen also went unsold.

Yes, the main problem is 5 teams with 4 overseas slots each. So defn there will huge amt of unsold overseas and Indian uncapped players. Need to have an 8 team league at the earliest to benefit all.

Wyatt, knight, cross cant be unsold !!

With the way #WPLAuction went looking at the prices the players were bought or remain unsold seem the owners are clueless about the calibre of female players or reluctant to splash the cash

yaar i feel 5 team is not enough.... all these good players are going unsold :(((

When you have only 5 teams and 30 overseas spots, UNSOLD will trend on twitter 🥲🥲 #WPL #WPLAuction pic.twitter.com/2ssbUspJqS

The Women’s IPL Auction is actual nonsense. Nearly £500k for Mandhana only £150k for Kapp, I could have made a world beating team with those unsold as well.

List of Unsold player's in #WPLAUCTION and the reputation their names carry is not balanced.
