The Women’s Premier League Auction 2023 has been an action-packed affair so far with some players going for big bucks while others failing to attract any bids from the franchises. The auction had one of the best starts ever as Indian opener Smriti Mandhana was bought for a whopping INR 3.4 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore.

However, after the second round ended, several big international stars went unsold as franchises were keen to buy all-rounders in place of bowlers. One of the biggest names that failed to attract bids was that of the Australian seamer Megan Schutt.

The 30-year-old is the fourth-highest wicket-taker in Women’s T20Is, having 116 wickets at an average of 16.12 and an economy of 6.20, inclduing three four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul. She also jointly holds the record for picking four-wicket hauls in consecutive innings in T20Is.

The other surprising player that went unsold was New Zealand’s Lea Tahuhu, who is the leading wicket-taker for the Kiwi women in T20Is. However, the franchises showed no interest in the veteran medium pacer.

South Africa’s Ayabonga Khaka was also among the players who failed to get any attention from the franchises while Australia’s Jess Jonassen also went unsold. Alana King, Sarah Glenn and Poonam Yadav were some other stars who couldn’t find a place in any of the franchises. India’s U19 T20 World Cup-winning team member Soumya Tiwari also failed to find any bidders during the auction despite having a base price of just INR 10 lakh.
