The fairytale of a journey ends in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a three-time champion, Dwayne Bravo announced his retirement from the tournament. With 183 scalps to his name, Bravo is at the top of the list with most wickets in the history of the tournament and even was brilliant in the death overs over the years. Thus, his retirement remains to be a shock to many fans but they also hailed the cricketer on social media.
However, his association with the Chennai Super Kings franchise continues as the MS Dhoni-led side appointed the Caribbean all-rounder as their new bowling coach. Meanwhile, the current bowling coach, Lakshmipathy Balaji will be taking a break for one year due to personal commitments.
“I’m looking forward to this new journey because it’s something I see myself doing after my playing days is fully over. I enjoy working with bowlers and it’s a role I’m excited about. From player to coach, I don’t think I have to adjust much because while I’m playing, I always work with bowlers and try to come up with plans and ideas on how to have that one step ahead of the batsmen. The only difference is I will no longer be standing at mid-on or mid-off!
“I never thought I would be the leading wicket-taker in the history of IPL. But I’m just happy to be a part of IPL history!” said Bravo in a statement released by CSK.
Now, despite being in the CSK camp for almost a decade, Bravo started his career with Mumbai in 2008. With Chennai being banned for two years in the middle, he represented Gujarat Lions and even helped the team qualify for the semi-finals in 2016.
The fans were initially in awe but didn’t fail to express their opinion of one of the greatest to ever grace the T20 game.
