The USA vs Ireland match was cancelled on Friday, resulting in Pakistan, the last edition's runners-up, being officially eliminated from this year’s T20 World Cup.

Due to an unplayable wet outfield, the USA and Ireland each received one point, bringing the co-hosts to a total of five points and securing their place in the Super 8s. Even if Pakistan win their match against Ireland on Sunday, they can only reach a maximum of four points.

For Pakistan to qualify, they needed the USA vs Ireland match to take place and for Ireland to win. This would have allowed Pakistan a chance to beat Ireland and advance to the next round. However, the weather intervened, and Babar Azam’s team was eliminated.

Kamran Akmal expressed his disappointment, noting that it is very disappointing and sad that the Pakistan team could not reach the Super Eight. He also acknowledged the bitter fact that the team played below-average cricket and emphasized that it is now time to rectify the problems.

Wasim Jaffer also reacted and said that contrary to popular belief, Pakistan didn't get knocked out because the USA vs Ireland match was rained off. Instead, they were eliminated because Pakistan lost to the USA.

Cricket Ireland reacted to the washout with a tweet stating that their hopes of reaching the Super 8s were dashed by the weather in Florida, as the game was abandoned without a ball being bowled. They expressed their disappointment but resolved to try again for the final time on Sunday.
