The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has more or less caught most headlines after the controversy around former Prime Minister and cricketer Imran Khan, and that trend continued as the country celebrated its 76th Independence Day on August 14, 2023. Taking to Twitter, the PCB posted a montage to celebrate the country’s major achievements in cricket as a way of paying homage to the legends of the sport.
The clip traced back Pakistan cricket’s history, all the way back from their very first cricket game to their 2022 T20 World Cup campaign in Australia. However, fans could not help but notice that former skipper Imran Khan, who led Pakistan to the 1992 World Cup title, was missing from the montage.
This caused a major outrage as fans poured in to lambast the PCB for ignoring such an important man in the team’s history due to the controversies surrounding him. The PCB posted the clip with the caption, "Making history isn't just about one day, it's about the legends we create and the tales we script. Pakistan Cricket Team—a legacy that echoes through time #BeyondJustOneDay."
One of the biggest reasons why Imran Khan was snubbed from the montage could be his recent arrest when he was sentenced to three years in prison, which stirred major controversy across the country.
Pakistan gear up for Asia Cup 2023
Speaking of Pakistan’s upcoming assignments, the side will be gearing up for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023. Pakistan will begin their tournament by taking on Nepal in the season opener on August 30. The side will be taking on India in the much-anticipated encounter on September 2, in Sri Lanka.
It is worth noting that Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be co-hosting the Asia Cup 2023. Furthermore, after the Asia Cup, Pakistan will be shifting their focus onto the ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to begin on October 5 and will be hosted entirely by India for the first time.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Imran Khan’s snub from the montage:
Shame on PCB for disrespecting our national hero. Chairman PCB must be held accountable for it. Learn how to respect our heroes or leave the office. #ShameOnPCB pic.twitter.com/ylsROUBcj8

Even when you weren't born, Imran Khan was earning pride for the country. What you did was quite shameful. Legend Imran Khan is ruling hearts even after your low attempt but you will be ridiculed always for this! #ShameOnPCB
