‘Proper mentality monster’ - Netizens demand Abhimanyu Easwaran’s India selection following mammoth Irani Cup knock

The ongoing Irani Cup clash has seen many performances from both Mumbai and Rest of India. From Ajinkya Rahane’s 97-run knock on day 1 to Sarfaraz Khan completing his double ton in the first innings, it was the turn of 29-year-old Abhimanyu Easwaran on day 4. 

Representing the Rest of India, Abhimanyu Easwaran opened the innings for his side on day 3 of the clash and went on to bat almost until lunch on day 4. In an incredible showcase of resilience, Easwaran barely missed out on his double ton, scoring 191 runs in 292 deliveries. 

His performance helped the Rest of India post a total of 400 runs by the time of lunch on day 4 of the clash. Easwaran’s performance against Mumbai urged many fans to come forward and back for his selection for the national team. 

Many fans took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and shared their views on Easwaran getting neglected by several selectors over the years, he is yet to get his chance with the Indian team.

It is worth noting that Easwaran has played 97 first-class matches so far, where he has managed to amass a whopping 7315 runs to his name and has maintained an average of 48.44 runs, with 25 centuries to his name.

Rest of India trail by 137 runs by lunch 

Speaking of the ongoing Irani Cup clash between Mumbai and Rest of India, after Mumbai posted a total of 537 runs in the first innings, Rest of India have managed to reply in kind. 

The side opened their innings with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Easwaran scoring nine and 191 runs, respectively. Sai Sudharsan added 32 runs on the board alongside Devdutt Padikkal, who scored 16, and Ishan Kishan, who scored 38 runs to his name. 

Dhruv Jurel amassed 93 runs in 121 deliveries as Rest of India went to lunch with a total of 400 runs on the board and trailed Mumbai by 137 runs.
