It seems that Riyan Parag has already made a strong statement heading into the IPL 2023 having showcased his excellent cricket abilities in the domestic circuit. After a successful outing at this year’s Vijay Hazare Trophy, Parag has now turned his attention to the ongoing Ranji Trophy where he has smashed a blistering 50 runs off only 19 deliveries. He went on to score 78 runs off 28 balls.
Parag made his bat do the talking exceptionally during Assam’s Ranji Trophy 2022-23 fixture against Hyderabad at Deccan on Wednesday, December 28. This was a morale-boosting knock from Riyan as he failed to make an impact during the last game against Delhi.
However, the youngster did start his Ranji Trophy campaign on a high registering scores of 76 and 95 against Saurashtra and now, after this splendid knock, the 21-year-old would be looking to have a memorable tournament from here on.
Incidentally, the Assam youngster was one of the retained players by Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2023. The franchise showed faith in him despite being off-color during the last season where he only managed 183 runs from 17 matches at an average of 16.64 and a strike rate of 138.64. Even his bowling performances were dismal as the youngster finished with just a solitary scalp averaging 59 and an economy of 14.75.
Nonetheless, the Rajasthan Royals can now afford to heave a sigh of relief as Riyan Parag has had an outstanding 2022 in the domestic arena. He was Assam’s highest run-getter in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
The emerging all-rounder finished with 253 runs from seven innings at this year’s Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and as far as his performances in VHT are concerned, Parag amassed 552 runs from nine innings averaging 69 including three centuries and a half-century.
Parag also picked up 10 wickets with the ball as Assam succeeded in making the semifinals of the tournament.
