In the match against Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL 2023, South African international Rilee Rossouw wreaked havoc, hitting 82* runs off just 37 deliveries. Throughout the course of the season, the 33-year-old was heavily criticised for his form but in DC’s penultimate match of the season, the cricketer managed to step up and deliver for the visiting team. Courtesy of his ferocious innings, DC posted 213 runs on board in the first innings.
Notably, the openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner set the tone of the match in the initial overs. In his return match, the youngster Shaw smacked 54 runs off 38 deliveries while skipper Warner hit 46 runs off 31 balls. After they were sent back to the pavilion, Rossouw took charge and played a scintillating knock. He hit six sixes and six boundaries and helped Delhi post a defendable total on the board.
Meanwhile, even though DC are currently out of the IPL playoffs race, this will give the franchise much-needed confidence going forward. Also, the management will get more clarity on the players they want to retain for the next season. Rossouw, notably, was in sensational form for South Africa but in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League, he looked pale before coming to Dharamsala, where he showed his caliber, which could guarantee him a retention in the Delhi squad for next year.
On the other hand, Punjab Kings will be desperate to chase it down and keep themselves alive in the competition. They currently have 12 points from 12 games and if they manage to win the clash against DC, their chances to qualify for the playoffs would definitely increase. However, if they lose any of the remaining two games, it could get complicated, given the fact that the race for the playoffs is wide open. The net run rate could also prove to be a massive factor in the end.
Delhi, meanwhile, will be hoping to get a win and uplift themselves from the bottom of the IPL points table. However, it may get tough as PBKS batters looked in great touch in the recent matches.
