After an underwhelming batting performance in the first ODI of the series, England have bounced back stronger and have put up a healthy total on the board in the second match at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Even when they lost early wickets of Phil Salt, Dawid Malan and James Vince, the Three Lions never felt pressure as opener Jason Roy from one end was playing an aggressive brand of cricket to keep the scoreboard ticking.
The 32-year-old was sensational with the bat and eventually managed to bring up his 12th century in the 50-over format. In 124 deliveries, Roy scored 132 runs, before veteran spinner Shakib Al Hasan got the better of him. Nevertheless, England didn’t change their strategy as skipper Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali and Sam Curran absolutely demolished Bangladesh’s bowling line-up and put up 326 runs on board after 50 overs.
Batting at number five, Buttler scored 76 off 64 while Ali smashed 42 off 35 and Sam Curran hit unbeaten 33 off 19. Bangladesh bowlers had no answers to their carnage as England are in the driver’s seat after the end of the first innings.
When it comes to Bangladesh’s bowling performance, Taskin Ahmed picked up three wickets but leaked over 6.5 runs per over while Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked up two wickets at an economy rate of 7.30. Thus, it was a very poor performance with the ball from Bangladesh.
Sam Curran strikes thrice to rattle Bangladesh’s top order
All-rounder Sam Curran stunned Bangladesh with his impeccable bowling in the second ODI. Chasing a total of 327 runs, the Tamim Iqbal-led side needed a strong start but Curran dismissed three of their batters to put Bangladesh under a lot of pressure.
In his very first over, the 24-year-old dismissed Litton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto and in his next over, he sent Mushfiqur Rahim back to the pavilion. Thus, it has been a shaky start for Bangladesh in the second innings and now, senior players like Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan need to take responsibility to bail them out of this situation.
