'Sacked?' - Twitter surprised to see KL Rahul lead team India despite Rohit Sharma's presence in the XI against Western Australia
Team India is taking on Western Australia XI in its second warm-up game before start of the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Team India faced Western Australia XI in its second warm-up game being played at the W.A.C.A Perth on October 13 (Thursday). After the toss, the Indian team management revealed its playing XI with permanent skipper Rohit Sharma in the squad but not named as the skipper.
The leadership role has been handed to the senior opening batter KL Rahul meaning Rohit might only bat in the match and won't field. The decision has not gone down well with the Indian fans who criticized both Rohit and the team management.
Virat Kohli's name is also missing from the playing XI list
Rohit could not get going in the first warm-up game against the same opponents as he scored only three runs in his four deliveries before getting scalped by pacer Jason Behrendorff. The senior batter will want to get some runs under his belt before the main action starts.
Meanwhile, senior batter Virat Kohli was not named in the playing XI for the second warm-up game. He did not take a part in the first match as well with questions being asked about Kohli's availability. However, the former skipper did take the field during India's bowling innings. Western Australia XI, after being put in to bat first, posted a competitive total of 168 runs in their 20 overs.
Moreover, Rohit Sharma didn't open with KL Rahul in the chase with Rishabh Pant assisting the latter at the top of the order. However, the move didn't work well as Pant got out for only runs.
Meanwhile, here are some Twitter reactions on Rahul being named as captain:
