Team India is all set to take on Sri Lanka in their second game of the Super Four stage at the Asia Cup 2022. While the Sri Lankan is backed with two massive victories, the Men in Blue lost their previous fixture against Pakistan by a close margin. Sri Lanka, as a result of their good form, opted to go unchanged while India took a big call by resting Ravi Bishnoi and bringing in Ravichandran Ashwin.

Bishnoi played his first game of the Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday, September 4, against Pakistan and was the stand-out player in the game. He was the most economical bowler among the lot, as he conceded just 26 runs in his four-over spell and picked up the crucial wicket of the Pakistani skipper Babar Azam early in the innings.

But even after an impressive outing, India decided to rest him for the Sri Lanka encounter and instead picked up the veteran spinner Ashwin in the side, who will be playing his first game at the continental tournament this season. To make way into the finals, India needs to win both their remaining fixtures, that is they need to defeat Sri Lanka and Afghanistan to keep their hopes alive.

The Twitter users had mixed reactions to India's decision. While some criticised the team management for dropping the in-form Bishnoi, there were a few who were happy with the decision of having Ashwin's experience for the crucial fixture. There also were some who felt that both Ashwin and Bishnoi could have been kept in the side, eliminating Chahal from the combination.

A level playing field for India and Sri Lanka

Speaking of how the two teams have performed so far, India started on a high note when they defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in their first game of the Group stage. The Men in Blue then went on to defeat Hong Kong in their second game and ended up in the top spot of the Group A points table. They then faced Pakistan again in their first game of the Super Four and lost the fixture.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka lost their first group game fixture to Afghanistan, but bounced back stronger and defeated Bangladesh to make it into the Super Four. Sri Lanka then defeated Afghanistan to level it, and bagged the first two points in the Super Four points table. Both their games were nail-biting thrillers and they are currently on top of the Super Four points table.

Meanwhile, let us have a look at how Twitter reacted to Bishnoi’s exclusion and Ashwin’s inclusion:
