After a hiatus, Shubman Gill finally managed to get going as he hit 85 runs off 92 deliveries in the third and final ODI of the series against West Indies. India's batting performance was below par in the opening two matches and thus, there were a lot of concerns about the same, especially with the ODI World Cup just around the corner. Hence, Gill felt the pressure to perform. Ishan Kishan, his opening partner has played some tremendous cricket in the last few matches and thus, Gill’s spot in the World Cup too was under threat.

Hence, the cricketer had to deliver something special in the final ODI and that’s exactly what he did. He took some time to settle in but once he did, Gill wasn’t afraid to take on the opposition. He played his natural game and scored runs for fun before Gudakesh Mortie got the better of him.

Notably, ahead of the third ODI, the cricketer opened up about having a rough time with the bat and how he understands it to be more of a mental thing than technical. Thus, he wanted to start strong in Trinidad, and along with Kishan, the cricketer managed to give the visiting team a flying start. Their partnership of 143 runs set the tone of the match and he didn’t look back after that. Interestingly, with that, the pair also registered India's highest opening partnership in West Indies.

Meanwhile, after Kishan got back to the pavilion, Gill built an important partnership with Sanju Samson. Interestingly, the match holds massive importance to the Kerala-born cricketer as well, since he is eyeing to cement his spot in the national team ahead of the World Cup. The cricketer started in a brilliant fashion and eventually hit 51 runs. However, like most of his knocks, Samson failed to convert it into a big total.

On the other hand, after Gill walked back to the pavilion, Suryakumar Yadav came out to bat at number six. Notably, the Indian team seems eager to try him as a finisher in the 50-overs format, especially with KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer currently out with injury.
