India were in desperate need of a partnership after Shivam Dube was dismissed for 13. The tourists had lost half their side for 48 runs inside nine overs. Gill and Riyan Parag joined forces and played some aggressive strokes to give the Indian fans something to cheer for. They added 54 runs off 40 balls on a pitch which was providing prodigious turn. Parag hit two sixes in the 14th over against Wanindu Hasaranga as the momentum was shifting towards India for the first time in the match. However, the two batters fell in the 16th over as Hasaranga bounced back commendably. Gill's wicket was huge for Sri Lanka as he was setting himself up for a big finish. However, he eventually departed for a 37-ball 39.

In the end, Washington Sundar played a fine hand as he scored 25 off 18 balls as India finished on 137/9 in their 20 overs. Maheesh Theekshana was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers as he finished with figures of 3/28 in four overs. Sri Lanka would have fancied themselves to chase down the 138-run target to avoid a T20I series whitewash.

Sri Lanka suffer another collapse, India triumph in Super Over

Sri Lanka got off to a sedate start as Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis added 58 runs off 53 balls. The former was dismissed in the ninth over for a 27-ball 26. Kusal Perera joined his namesake and they batted with composure to add 52 runs off 39 balls.

Sri Lanka were in control of proceedings at 110/1, needing just 28 runs to win off 29 balls. However, they lost three wickets in the space of nine balls to give India a sniff.

The tourists applied the pressure outstandingly as Suryakumar Yadav relied on his spinners to do the bulk of the damage. In fact, Rinku Singh and Suryakumar bowled the last two overs and conceded just eight runs and picked up four wickets to help India get out of jail. Sri Lanka finished on 137/8 in their 20 overs as the match trickled down to the Super Over.

Batting first, Sri Lanka could only muster a couple of runs before Washington Sundar dismissed Kusal Perera and Pathum Nissanka off consecutive deliveries to end the innings. Suryakumar swept Maheesh Theekshana's first ball for a boundary to take India to victory.
