Dinesh fumbled and failed to pick the ball upon which LSG took the single and snatched the victory from the home side.
The 16th edition of the IPL 2023 has seen numerous exhilarating clashes, and among them was the thrilling affair between Royal Challengers Banglore and Lucknow Super Giants. Notably, KL Rahul-led LSG clinched a victory from a tricky situation in the final ball of the contest following an error by RCB keeper Dinesh Karthik.
In doing so, the keeper garnered massive flak from netizens, which eventually helped LSG earn the two points. For the unversed, LSG required five runs off the final over, with Jaydev Unadkat up against 2021 Purple Cap holder Harshal Patel.
Unadkat tucked the ball for a single off the first delivery, which got Mark Wood on strike. The following ball Harshal castled Wood, dipping a slower ball which crashed into the middle-stump. Ravi Bishnoi, who joined the crease, got three runs in the next two balls, and the equation became simpler for LSG as they needed one off the last two balls.
Harshal banged one short, upon which Unadkat went for the pull shot and found du Plessis at long-on. The final ball of the contest was where drama ensued. Unadkat’s dismissal meant that Avesh Khan would face the final ball of the contest.
The pacer began his run-up and stopped immediately as he noticed Bishnoi tracking away from the non-striker’s crease. Harshal attempted to run him out, but it would not count as the bowler cannot throw after making the first warning in the same delivery. This essentially meant he would have to bowl the final ball for the second time under tremendous pressure.
With one required of the final ball, the RCB pacer beat Avesh Khan, only for wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik to miss the run-out. Dinesh fumbled and failed to pick the ball, upon which LSG took the single and snatched the victory from the home side at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Notably, it was Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis’ heroics that revived the chase as the duo got 62 and 65 runs respectively. A thrilling contest ended with the home side losing their second straight game in the final ball as LSG chased down 213 runs.
