Sri Lanka were all over New Zealand on Day 4 of the second Test at the Galle International Stadium on September 29. The visitors finished Day 3 on 199 for the loss of five wickets after they were bundled out in the first innings for just 88 runs and were forced to follow on. Tom Blundell and Glenn Phillips commenced Day 4 for New Zealand cautiously, still trailing by 316 runs.
But both batters were dismissed by Nishan Peiris for 60 and 78 respectively. Mitchell Santner entered the fray and showed some resilience in his 67-run knock. Thanks to his inning, the visitors dragged the game post-Lunch, but Prabath Jayasuriya awaited them with his spin mastery. The spinner picked Tim Southee and Ajaz Patel as Sri Lanka won the game by an innings and 154 runs.

This was a bit harder than the previous Test: Prabath Jayasuriya
For the Lankans, Peiris dazzled with a six-wicket haul, and he was ably supported by Jayasuriya, who chipped in with three wickets in the second innings. Although Peris displayed a compelling performance, Kamindu Mendis was named the Player of the Match for his 182 runs in the first innings. Jayasuriya was named as the Player of the Series as he picked 18 wickets in two matches.
Jayasuriya also reflected on the series, and their performance in home conditions, coming on the back of an away series defeat at the hands of England recently.
“I'm not a records' man. (On Peiris) He is very good, he bowled consistently at one line and length. Very positive for him. This was a bit harder than the previous Test. When the ball gets soft, the wicket gets softer. We're just trying to do our basics and no need for us to panic. Just need to bowl wicket to wicket and create pressure on them,” said Jayasuriya at the end of the game.
