Twitter Reactions: All round Sri Lanka dent Bangladesh's Asia Cup dream with 21-run win, extend winning streak to 13 matches

The action continued in the Asia Cup 2023 after a two-day break as Sri Lanka and Bangladesh locked horns in 2^nd Match of Super 4s on Saturday, September 09 at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first. The Dasun Shanaka-led side got off to a steady start as openers Pathum Nissanka (40 off 60) and Dimuth Karunaratne (18 off 17) added 34 runs for the first wicket.

Hasan Mahmud got the first strike for Bangladesh as he got Karunaratne caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim. Kushal Mendis (50 off 73) walked in at number three and stitched a 74-run stand off 107 balls for the second wicket with Nissanka. Their partnership was broken by Shoriful Islam who brought his side back into the game by dismissing Nissanka and Mendis in back-to-back overs.

Charith Asalanka (24 off 32) and Dhananjaya de Silva (6 off 16) also departed cheaply to leave Sri Lanka on 164/5. At the other end, Sadeera Samarawickrama played a scintillating innings of 93 off 72 to take his side to a decent total of 257/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Hasan Mahmud (3/57) and Taskin Ahmed (3/62) picked three wickets each for Bangladesh.

In reply, Bangladesh got off to a good start in their chase as Mohammad Naim (21 off 46) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (28 off 29) added 55 runs for the first wicket. However, they lost quickly lost their way losing wickets in quick succession and were left reeling at 83/4 after 18.5 overs.

A 72-run stand off 111 balls between Mushfiqur Rahim (29 off 48) and Towhid Hridoy kept Bangladesh in the game. Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka once again struck for his team and got the big wicket of Rahim. However, Hridoy continued his brilliant knock from the other end and was the last ray of hope for his team.

But it all came to an end as he got trapped in front of the stumps by Maheesh Theekshana in the 44^th over. Hridoy departed for a well-made 82 (97) with his team still 61 runs away from a win. The tailenders tried their best but couldn't get Bangladesh over the line as they got all out for 236 handing a 21-run win for Sri Lanka. Shanaka (3/28), Pathirana (3/58) and Theekshana (3/69) hunted in packs for Sri Lanka and helped them register their 13th consecutive win in ODIs.
