Australia went north on the table against Bangladesh following a sound bowling performance by Pat Cummins at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound in Antigua on Friday, June 21. Although there was a DLS method that propelled the Aussies to a win in their first Super Eights fixture, it was a complete team performance that led to outplaying the Bangla Tigers by 28 runs.

Batting first, the Bangladeshi side lost their first wicket on the third ball itself, however, Litton Das and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto built a 58-run partnership off 48 balls, before the formal fell prey to Adam Zampa's spin. One wicket followed another as the Bangla Tigers were soon reduced to 84/4 at the end of 13 overs. Towhid Hridoy provided a fight to keep his team in the competition, although Pat Cummins had other plans.

Cummins took charge in the eighteenth over, sending Mahmudullah and Mahedi Hasan on the fifth and sixth ball, respectively. In the final over of the innings, Cummins had a hat trick chance, and bowled a well-executed slower ball to get Hridoy caught by Josh Hazlewood. The ace pacer became the seventh bowler to claim three-in-three in the history of the multi-nation tournament.

On a decent surface, Shanto & Co managed to put 140/8 on the board, but before the second innings began, a wet outfield didn't allow the chase to resume on time. Upon resumption, the Aussie openers David Warner and Travis Head gave a flying start to get going. The southpaw duo scored 59 runs in the powerplay, but soon Travis Head departed for a 21-ball 31, as the in-form Rishad Hossain got the big fish. In came captain Mitchell Marsh, who couldn't last long, getting caught lbw, again by Rishad.

Warner, on the other hand, showed no intentions to keep slow down, reaching his half-century off 34 deliveries, laced with five boundaries and three glorious sixes. Glenn Maxwell too supported him ably with his 14-run cameo before rain interrupted again. Scoring at a quick rate helped Australia's cause, as they were ahead by 28 runs as per the DLS (Duckworth-Lewis-Stern) method. No more play could happen, as March & Co. were awarded the match to go 1-0 up in the Super Eights, getting the all-important stage off to an excellent start.
