T20 World Cup 2024: AUS vs OMA, Match 10, Highlights: Unmissable video recap, turning points, match analysis, stats, and more
Australia started off their quest for the treble with a 39-run victory against Oman in Match 10 of the T20 World Cup 2024.
Facing off for the very first time in international cricket, Match 10 of the T20 World Cup 2024 between Australia and Oman marked a significant historical milestone for both teams, particularly for the associate nation, Oman.
Aqib Ilyas won the toss and put Australia in to bat first, a decision that the Omani bowling unit supported remarkably well, ensuring they maximized the advantage of their choice. In just the third over of the game, Bilal Khan delivered a crucial blow to Australia by stifling Travis Head's potential onslaught and the mayhem he could've caused had he gotten set, as the latter drove the ball aerially straight into the hands of mid-off. In fact, Oman excelled during the powerplay, restricting Australia to a mere 37 runs.
Although David Warner and Marsh adopted a cautious approach at the crease, it must be acknowledged that Oman exerted substantial pressure on Australia, preventing them from breaking free. Their troubles were further compounded by a double-wicket over from Mehran Khan, which included a golden duck for Glenn Maxwell, whose dismal form persisted following his worst-ever IPL season in the recently-concluded edition.
From that point onwards, it was all about Marcus Stoinis. Dominating the bowlers, he treated the Omani attack with utter disdain, as if he were batting on an entirely different pitch. Scoring his third T20I half-century, Stoinis' explosive 67* (36) featuring two fours and six sixes added much-needed respectability to the Australian total, which reached 164/5. Ilyas was the most economical bowler of the lot, conceding just 18 runs in his quota.
Turning to the run-chase, the first over proved to be the most eventful of the entire match. Mitchell Starc began with a loose delivery, which Kashyap Prajapati elegantly dispatched for a square drive to kick off the innings. What followed was a wide, a golden duck for wicketkeeper-batter, Pratik Athavale, a first-ball boundary by Ilyas, another wide, and a second review being taken within a span of three deliveries. Three separate overs during the pursuit of the target later, each yielding only a single run and a wicket, completely derailed Oman's run-chase.

They lost wickets at regular intervals, with only Ayaan Khan (36 off 30) and Mehran (27 off 16) managing to surpass the 25-run mark. Ultimately, Oman finished at 125/9, falling short by 39 runs. Starc, Nathan Ellis, and Adam Zampa each secured two wickets, while Stoinis concluded with three, aptly earning the Player of the Match award for his outstanding all-round display.
