The mighty Australia (AUS) and Scotland (SCO) faced off in game 35 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia, on Sunday, June 16. The game began with Scotland coming in to bat first after losing the toss.
Brandon McMullen scored the fastest fifty for Scotland in T20I World Cup
The side got off to a subpar start as opener Michael Jones was dismissed for just two runs, whereas George Munsey scored 35 runs in 23 deliveries. After the rather shaky start, it was the knock of Brandon McMullen that stabilised the innings for Scotland. Notably, McMullen scored the fastest fifty for his country (60 runs in 44 deliveries) alongside Richie Berrington, who stayed unbeaten on a score of 42 runs in 31 balls. Furthermore, Matthew Cross added 18 runs on the board as Scotland managed to post a total of 180 runs in the first innings.
As for Australia, Glenn Maxwell was the highest wicket-taker for his side, with two wickets to his name. Nathan Ellis, Ashton Agar, and Adam Zampa took one wicket each as well.
Australia finish T20 World Cup group stage with 100 percent win record
Aiming to chase down the target, Australia lost the wicket of veteran David Warner quite early on, just one run. However, Travis Head continued his brilliant form and amassed 68 runs in 49 deliveries, helping his side inch towards the target gradually.
Mitchell Marsh scored eight runs, with Glenn Maxwell adding 11 runs to the scoreboard. As Australia looked to be in trouble, the knock of Marcus Stoinis helped the side recover. The star all-rounder scored 59 runs in 29 deliveries, with Tim David staying unbeaten on a score of 24 runs as Australia posted a total of 186 runs and won the game by five wickets in the T20 World Cup 2024 encounter.
