Bangladesh took on Netherlands in Match 27 of the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown on June 13. Netherlands won the toss and opted to bowl first. Aryan Dutt, who was picked in the playing XI for the game, struck early as he sent Najmul Shanto and Litton Das back to the pavilion. Shakib Al Hasan and Tanzid Hasan stitched a much-needed partnership of 48 runs for the third wicket.

Tanzid departed after scoring 35 off 26 as Shakib kept searching for more runs with support from Mahmudullah. After Towhid Hridoy departed, the duo put up a 41-run stand to steer Bangladesh to a formidable total. Mahmudullah’s innings ended on 25 off 21 and Shakib remained unbeaten on 64 off 46. Jaker Ali’s unbeaten little cameo of 14 runs in seven balls saw the Tigers posting 159 for 5 on the board.

While chasing, Michael Levitt and Max O'Dowd faltered after a decent start. The duo scored 18 and 12 respectively as Netherlands fetched just 36 runs in powerplay. Vikramjit Singh and Sybrand Engelbrecht joined hands for a 37-run partnership before Vikramjit trudged back scoring 26 off 16. Sybrand got able support from the captain Scott Edwards as both batters added 42 runs between them.

Tailenders had too much on their plate

While Sybrand scored 33 off 22, Edwards had to end his stay on 25 off 23. Rishad Hossain was brought in by Bangladesh and he ended Netherlands hopes by picking Bas de Leede and Logan van Beek. With 36 needed off 12 deliveries, the tailenders had little to offer. Bangladesh managed to contain them comprehensively and won the game by 25 runs. With this win, Bangladesh kept their Super 8 stage hopes alive.
