Australia defeated Namibia by nine wickets.
Game 24 of the ongoing T20 World Cup featured a clash between Namibia and Australia. Both sides faced off at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, on Wednesday, June 12. The game began with Namibia coming in to bat first after losing the toss.
The side got off to a subpar start as openers Michael van Lingen and Nikolaas Davin scored 10 and two runs, respectively. Jan Frylinck departed for just one run as well, and with Gerhard Erasmus scoring 36 runs in 43 deliveries, the batter stabilized the innings for Namibia.
However, despite his resilience, none of the other batters could amount to much. JJ Smit and Zane Green were dismissed for three and one run, respectively, with David Wiese departing for a single as well. Australia’s brilliance with the ball saw Namibia bundled out for a score of 72 runs in the first innings.
Adam Zampa was the highest wicket-taker for the Men in Yellow, taking four wickets to his name. Josh Hazlewood and Marcus Stoinis took two wickets each, with Pat Cummins and Nathan Ellis striking once each.
Aiming to chase down the target of 73 runs, Australia made short work of Namibia. Veteran opener David Warner departed for a score of 20 runs in eight deliveries to open the innings. However, the knocks of Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head propelled the Aussies to a brilliant win.
Head stayed unbeaten on a score of 34 runs in 17 deliveries, whereas Marsh added 18* runs on the board in nine deliveries as Australia chased down the target in just 5.4 overs, winning the game by nine wickets. David Wiese was the only wicket-taker for Namibia in the clash as the side registered their second loss in three matches.
