Afghanistan and New Zealand took on each other in game 14 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, and it is safe to say that it was a day to remember for Afghanistan cricket. The clash began with Rashid Khan's men coming in to bat first after the BlackCaps won the toss and elected to field first.

However, the decision to bowl first quickly backfired for New Zealand as the Afghans got off to a stellar start with the bat. The side’s openers, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, put in magnificent showings, scoring 80 and 44 runs, respectively.

Azmatullah Omarzai added 22 runs on the board, but the remaining batters failed to go big. New Zealand made their way back into the game. Afghanistan were limited to a total of 159 runs after Trent Boult and Matt Henry took two wickets each, with Lockie Ferguson striking once.

Aiming to chase down the target, New Zealand got off to a horrid start as openers Finn Allen and Devon Conway departed for zero and eight runs, respectively. Skipper Kane Williamson only managed to score nine runs, along with Daryl Mitchell, who added five runs on the board.

Furthermore, Glenn Phillips scored 18 runs in just as many deliveries. Rashid & Co's bowling attack put forth a magnificent performance and made sure that New Zealand failed to chase down the target.

Mark Chapman and Michael Bracewell scored four and zero runs, respectively, with Matt Henry adding 12 runs, as New Zealand were bundled out for just 75 runs and lost the game by 84 runs.

Fazalhaq Farooqi and Rashid Khan were the star of the show for Afghanistan in the second innings, taking four wickets each, with Mohammad Nabi striking twice as Afghanistan registered their second win of the tournament.
