Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) explosive hitter Glenn Maxwell produced a sensational knock as he slammed 77 runs off just 44 balls against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Notably, the two sides have squared off in match 32 of the ongoing IPL 2023 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, in Bengaluru, on Sunday, April 23.
Following the early dismissals of Virat Kohli and Shahbaz Ahmed, the onus was on explosive hitter Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis to steer the side to a competitive total. While Kohli was dismissed on the very first ball of the game for a duck, Shahbaz could get just two runs before heading back to the dugout, both of whom were dismissed by Trent Boult.
In came the swashbuckling Aussie, who immediately hit the ground running, as he got a boundary off Boult to get off the mark. Maxwell and Faf kept the scoreboard ticking at a decent pace as they got the boundaries at regular intervals.
Moreover, the Aussie explosive hitter brought up his fifty, off mere 27 balls, which included three maximums and five fours, respectively. With hardly any respite for the Royals, the duo of Faf and Maxwell continued to hammer the visiting team and raised a humongous 127-run stand.
Shortly after the dismissal of du Plessis, Maxwell too headed back to the dugout in the final ball of the 15th over. The right-hander attempted the switch hit off Ravichandran Ashwin but found Jason Holder at backward point and headed back to the pavilion for 77 off 44 balls.
Prior to his fifty against the Royals, Maxwell registered two half-centuries against Lucknow Super Giants (59 runs) and Chennai Super Kings (76 runs). RCB concluded the innings with a competitive total of 189 runs in their 20 overs.
Meanwhile, Trent Boult and Sandeep Sharma got two wickets each whereas Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal got one apiece. While the quick outfield and the smaller dimensions of the ground could aid the rival batting unit, it remains to be seen if the home side are able to get the early breakthroughs to remain steady in the contest.
