'The CON in CONWAY stands for Consistency' - Twitter reacts as Devon Conway's terrific knock powers Chennai to 200 against PBKS
Devon Conway struck his fifth half-century of the ongoing IPL 2023.
The first match of Sunday's (April 30) doubleheader is underway as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are up against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ongoing IPL 2023 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. CSK skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and opted to bat first. Openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway handed CSK a solid start in front of the home crowd.
Conway guided CSK from the front as he scored a magnificent half-century off just 30 balls. Notably, this is the wicketkeeper-batter's fifth fifty in the ongoing IPL season and eighth in the cash-rich league. Conway's innings was studded with boundaries as he struck 16 fours and one maximum. He was again excellent and provided a brilliant start to the Yellow Army up front.
The CSK batters continued their power-hitting as they scored back-to-back boundaries. Notably, CSK had a great outing with the bat in the first six overs of the innings, as they were 57/0 in the powerplay.
Gaikwad and Conway looked in good shape and continued to trouble the PBKS bowlers. However, Sikandar Raza has provided PPBKS with a massive breakthrough as he dismissed Gaikwad for 37. The young opener failed to judge the delivery and went out of the crease as wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma stumped him in the tenth over.
Meanwhile, Conway, who has been in excellent form so far this season, smashed a boundary off Raza's delivery and picked up his half-century in style in the 12th over as CSK continued to dominate the Shikhar Dhawan-led side. From the other end, the Kiwi batter received strong support from Shivam Dube.
Conway was slightly unlucky as he fell eight runs short of his maiden IPL hundred. He remained unbeaten on 92 off 52 balls and helped the four-time champions score 200.
